Switch version has the full orchestral soundtrack, QoL improvements, and a 2D mode that feels like playing an old game.
The game has classic turn-based combat with pep powers and skill panels. I spent hours building characters. Erik as a thief/assassin, Serena as a sage, Luminary as a tank. Bosses need light strategy but never feel cheap, and it works whether you grind everything or rush the story. The 2D mode lets you replay the whole thing differently, which adds replay value.
I think the game respects your time. You can take it slow or rush through, and both approaches work. I had days where I barely did anything and took it slow, and some days where all I did was story progression.
The story ramps up slowly but builds to good payoffs. It starts simple and keeps adding layers. Act 3 reframes everything, and the way the narrative unfolds over time is really satisfying. Party members have real depth. The eighth party member’s loyalty, Veronica’s attitude. Their individual stories add weight and make you care about the cast. Funny skits between big events keep things light, but the character moments hit when they need to.
The game looks clean and colorful. The orchestral soundtrack is beautiful, the 2D mode is a great throwback, and it runs smooth on Switch. Perfect for handheld.
Traditional JRPG done really well. You can sink 80+ hours into it without feeling rushed. It reminded me why I fell in love with the genre.
