Astro Bot

This takes Astro’s Playroom and expands it into a full platformer. Each planet riffs on PlayStation eras. The pack-in was a tour, this is a road trip.

The levels have fun gimmicks but movement stays tight and challenges stay readable. You get swappable suits, buddies, and DualSense tricks. The polish rivals Nintendo. It keeps teaching you new stuff even twenty stages in! The challenge levels test mastery without punishing tries and are really fun.

Each planet feels distinct. Keeps teaching you new mechanics throughout.

Pretty light story. It uses PlayStation references for world-building, but there’s no heavy plot. Each planet tells a small story through design and the bots you find. The DualSense controller is essential to experience the game fully. Grapple swings, jetpack bursts, and power-ups all have satisfying feedback. The visuals are vibrant, each planet has its own personality.

PlayStation proved they can still do first-party platformers. Generous but not overwhelming, polished but not sterile. One of the best platformers I’ve played.
