PlatinumGames tried something interesting here - you control your character and a tethered Legion at the same time. Sounds complicated, and it kind of is at first, but once it clicks it feels like conducting a sci-fi martial arts duet.
The chain wrapping around enemies to bind them is satisfying once you get used to it. Perfect dodging into sync attacks, swapping between five different Legions mid-combo - each one has its own moves and traversal stuff. The patrol segments where you investigate crime scenes and help out citizens are a nice break from fighting, and boss fights get pretty crazy with all the phases and patterns you need to learn.
Managing your character and Legion simultaneously creates a unique flow. The learning curve is steep, but the payoff is worth it.
The Ark is a neon mess of a megacity with interdimensional problems. The story goes full anime with the melodrama, but I liked the quieter moments - helping people, scanning stuff, catching runaway cats. Those moments make the place feel more real than the big story beats do.
The soundtrack is good, with lots of industrial rock mixed with orchestral stuff. The art direction nails the cyberpunk look, and the combat animations look cool. Exploring the city between fights was worth it just to see everything.
Combat system is inventive enough that it’s worth learning. The weirdness works in its favor.
